Free Channels on a Sky receiver
One of the ways to get Digital Television is via Satellite. Using a second hand sky box you can get all the BBC and ITV TV channels plus a large collection of others. But Channel 4 and 5, 5 Live and 5 US are still encrypted using the Sky system and can only be received if you have a viewing card. You can get a non subscription card for a one off fee of £20 from FreeSatFromSky or a Sky installation and a FreeSat card for £150.

The use of a card in a Sky box will also regionalize BBC and ITV to your local area. If no card is used it defaults to London.

Also if you buy a second hand Sky+ Box you can pay £10 a month to enable the PVR features, pause live TV, record two channels at once or watch one channel while recording another or better subscribe to 2 Sky packages for £15 and get the Sky+ features for free.

The BBC and ITV are about to launch Freesat, a brand new digital satellite TV service offering free HD TV programming at no extra cost. Freesat has no monthly subscription, just a one-off payment for the digital box, satellite dish and installation - so you pay once, and watch forever. Because Freesat is broadcast via satellite, it'll be available to almost every household in the UK when it launches in the Spring 2008.
